Nasomatto

Nasomatto is a Dutch house led by Alessandro Gualtieri, a perfumer who has chased unusual scents since childhood, when he mixed mainstream fragrances with everyday aromas while still in school. He describes his process as one of surrender, beginning a composition and then letting it make its own choices, more interested in the act of creation than in controlling the outcome. He wants his perfumes to carry an intelligence of their own rather than simply serve his intentions, an approach that gives the line its untamed, unpredictable character.

The signature is dark and visceral, built on woods and smoke with musk and an animalic warmth running through it. Raw musk and leather give it a feral edge, green notes add an unexpected lift, and woodsy notes deepen the whole effect. Start with Black Afgano, the house's notorious resinous heavyweight, or Absinth for something green and intoxicating, and reach for Blamage or China White to follow the style further. Nasomatto makes fragrance that feels alive enough to talk back.
