Maison Francis Kurkdjian
Maison Francis Kurkdjian is the house of the perfumer whose name it carries. Born in Paris in 1969 and of Armenian descent, Francis Kurkdjian had already created successful fragrances for houses like Jean Paul Gaultier, Yves Saint Laurent, and Dior before founding his own label in 2009 alongside Marc Chaya. The house pairs classical technique with a contemporary sensibility, and Kurkdjian's hand guides each composition from idea to finished scent. In 2016 the brand joined LVMH, which broadened its reach while the work stayed centered on precision and quality.
The collection is luminous and finely made, built on woods and aromatic facets softened by a powdery touch and lifted with citrus. Bergamot and Sicilian mandarin keep the openings radiant, saffron adds a spiced glow, and jasmine brings polish. Baccarat Rouge 540 is the modern icon, but the Oud, Oud Velvet Mood, and Lumiere Noire Homme show the house at its richer and more resinous. These are fragrances that feel composed rather than assembled, every note in its intended place.
