Lalique
Lalique is a French house whose story begins with Rene Lalique, born in 1860 and trained first as a jeweler and graphic artist before he transformed the art of glass. A celebrated figure of the Art Nouveau era, he partnered with Francois Coty to design perfume bottles at a time when scent was sold in plain vials, and went on to create flacons for Guerlain, Worth, d'Orsay and Nina Ricci, among others. Glass became his life's medium. In 1992 his granddaughter Marie-Claude Lalique launched the brand's first perfume, reviving the family tradition of presenting fragrance in beautiful vessels. Today the house sits within the Lalique Group.
Drawing on perfumers such as Nathalie Lorson and Sophia Grojsman, the line is woody and musky, with an earthy depth and a powdery finish that reads quietly luxurious. Bergamot brightens the top, rose adds a refined floral heart, black currant lends a tart facet, and cypress brings a green, resinous coolness. Begin with the celebrated Encre Noire, then explore Amethyst and Amethyst Eclat for the brand's softer, jewel-toned side. Lalique keeps glassmaking and perfumery as two halves of one art.
