Floris London

Floris is a London perfumery that has operated since 1730 and is still run by descendants of its founders, Juan Famenius Floris and his wife Elizabeth. From its address on Jermyn Street the house first sold grooming goods, combs, and perfumes, and it received a Royal Warrant in 1820 as comb maker to King George IV. Its clientele over the centuries reads like a history book, from Florence Nightingale and Winston Churchill to Marilyn Monroe. The Jermyn Street shop remains the company's headquarters and flagship, and Floris still offers scents that date to its earliest years alongside thoroughly modern ones, as well as bespoke perfumes.

The house style is fresh, refined, and unmistakably English. Bergamot, mandarin, and lemon open bright and clean, with sea notes adding an airy coastal lift, all carried on woods, aromatics, and fresh spice that give the compositions a polished backbone. The effect is crisp rather than heavy, classic without feeling dated. Bergamotto di Positano is a lovely citrus introduction, while Cefiro and Jermyn Street, named for the house's home, offer more aromatic readings, and Bouquet de La Reine turns toward floral elegance. Nearly three centuries of London perfumery, still in the family.
