Diptyque

Diptyque began in Paris as the project of three artists, Yves Coueslant, Desmond Knox-Leet, and Christiane Gautrot, who opened a salon on Boulevard Saint-Germain selling printed fabrics, home goods, and imported scents. The name nods to the shop's large diptych windows. Scented candles came first and proved a quiet sensation, and it was the steady demand from customers that finally pushed the trio toward perfume. The house released its debut fragrance, L'Eau, in 1968, drawing on old English recipes for home scenting. Much of the collection traces back to the founders' shared love of travel.

The Diptyque signature leans aromatic and softly textured, with green herbal facets, a thread of fresh spice from juniper, and a powdery warmth that settles into bourbon vanilla. Bergamot lifts the opening while elemi resin lends a clean, almost incense-like depth. Start with Eau Duelle for its spiced vanilla character or Vetyverio for a more rooted, vetiver-driven take. These are scents built for people who notice the difference between a candle lit at dusk and one lit at noon.
