Byredo

Byredo was founded in Stockholm in 2006 by Ben Gorham, a former basketball player born to an Indian mother and a French-Canadian father. A graduate of Stockholm's School of Arts, Gorham met perfumer Pierre Wulff by chance, and that meeting turned his fascination with scent into a brand built on translating memory and emotion into fragrance. He works with perfumers including Jerome Epinette and Olivia Giacobetti, and keeps his formulas deliberately spare, trusting a handful of well-chosen notes over crowded compositions. The house, now part of Puig, draws each scent from a specific place or feeling.

The signature is modern and clean, with woods and amber softened by powder and musk. Black currant and lemon give a tart, bright opening, juniper adds a cool green edge, and bergamot ties it together with quiet elegance. Begin with Gypsy Water, the house's most recognizable scent, or try Casablanca Lily and Vanille Antique for its softer, more floral and sweet registers, with Rose Noir for something darker. Byredo proves that restraint can be its own kind of luxury.
