Bortnikoff is a niche house built around the obsessions of its founder, Dmitry Bortnikov, whose path into perfumery started with the creation Feel-Oud. The brand is defined by an almost archival hunt for rare and unusual materials, from Russian castoreum and wild Vietnamese agarwood to Atlantic ambergris and Indonesian rose, many drawn from recipes guarded by families for generations. Every release is a limited run, a choice the house frames not as marketing but as a consequence of working with formulas that are 85 to 100 percent natural and impossible to reproduce exactly.

That naturalist philosophy shows in the scent. The collection moves between bright citrus, lush florals, and deep amber, often anchored by real oud rather than a synthetic stand-in. Bergamot and sweet orange open things up, cardamom adds a warm spice, and frangipani brings a creamy floral richness. Begin with Oud Monarch or Triad for the house's resinous, complex woods, or try Sir Winston and Amber for warmer, rounder character.
