Amouage
Amouage is a luxury house established in Oman in 1983, born from a wish to restore the great Arabian art of perfumery to the region. The first fragrance, now known as Amouage Gold, was created by the French perfumer Guy Robert, whose work also graced houses like Hermes and Dior. The house draws on ingredients long treasured in the Middle East, agarwood, incense, musk, rose, and spices, while collaborating with noses from leading fragrance ateliers, among them Cecile Zarokian, Bertrand Duchaufour, and Nathalie Lorson.
The signature is rich and ceremonial, woody with warm and fresh spice and a glowing amber depth. Pink pepper and cardamom bring a vivid spiced opening, bergamot adds brightness, and olibanum, the resin of frankincense, lends a smoky, sacred quality at the heart. The effect is opulent and unmistakably Arabian in spirit. Start with Purpose or Incense Rori, then explore Saffron Hamra and Honour Woman 43. Few houses wear the heritage of the East with this much grandeur.
